Fundraising Down the Drain: The Leaky Bucket Benchmarking Study of Effective Fundraising 2014 is the first of its kind, a benchmarking study demonstrating the productivity of the fundraising staff, be that staff made up of full-time fundraising professionals, contractors, volunteers, or founder-directors who do it all. The study is based on the results of our Leaky Bucket Assessment for Effective Fundraising, an on-line survey we launched in April 2011, and covers all results from the date of launch through December 31, 2013. We analyze the responses of 600 participants, from every state in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean, and even one from the Galapagos Islands!
Research on the performance of the fundraising staff has been hard to find before now, although there is a large and healthy body of knowledge about donors and their behavior and performance. This study complements the admirable work of such major studies as the Giving USA Report and the Fundraising Effectiveness Project produced by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in collaboration with the Urban Institute.
